Two participants in the Offshore Wind Innovation Challenge of Offshore Wind Innovators were in the finals on Monday 9th December with their oyster table design for The Rich North Sea. The British ARC Marine and the Dutch Witteveen + Bos gave a dazzling pitch about their designs, but it turned out not to be enough for the win. In the end two other participants, MO4 and Seaqualize, won the innovation contest.
The question from The Rich North Sea, which was central to the Offshore Innovation Challenge, was the design of a structure in which oysters can be planted sustainably, in order to strengthen underwater nature in the North Sea. The participants were given three months to come up with a design that can withstand the forces of the North Sea and that can be used in wind farms at sea. In the coming months, the design of the two finalists will be further elaborated, tested and, if successful, released into the sea.
