An introduction on the life cycle of European flat oysters has been written that specifically addresses the methods that predict spawning time.
The European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) is a native reef-building species used in offshore nature enhancement projects in the North Sea.
Predicting the spawning period is important because we can use this knowledge in the reintroduction of the flat oyster in nature development projects. In addition, knowledge of the spawning period is also necessary to introduce suitable material for the oyster larvae to settle on.
